My Nanna Jessie Booth (née Battersby) lived at 168 Sheffield Road (long row). I think Mr and Mrs Higgs lived next door. He kept a pigeon cote in the yard at the back.
I believe this was also know as Telegraph Row, as it was said that people would rattle their pokers on the fire backs to alert their next door neighbours that something was up.
Harry Rutter from Quarry Farm bought all the timber joists, rafters, floorboards and doors when Long Row was demolished and we built a barn, using the timber, on what was the sewage works, which he used to rent from the council.
