BARROW HILL ENGINE SHED SOCIETY

All presentations are held on the 3rd Thursday of the month (with the exception of the one in May which has been moved to the 8th due to another event on the usual date). All of the social events are held in the Roundhouse Lecture Theatre, commencing at 7.30 pm and usually finishing before 10.00 pm.  Doors open at 7.00 pm.

Hot and cold drinks, as well as some cold snacks, are available from the buffet before 7.30 pm and during the interval.

There is free parking on site, but the Roundhouse is also accessible via the service 90A bus from Chesterfield and Staveley.

Admission is £1.50 for member and £2.00 for non-members. (Admission prices for The Christmas Social to be announced).

St Giles Church hold a Coffee Morning in St Giles Church Hall, Sheepcote Road from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm on the first Saturday in the month throughout the year (excluding August)

Come along and have a coffee and cake.

Proceeds go the St Giles Church Organ Appeal.

The organ in St Giles Church is very old.  The keys are stuck, the foot pedals are held together with rubber bands.  It is in need of urgent attention.

Irish Surprises presented by Colin Boocock.  Documenting the very great changes in the railways of Ireland since 1956.

Monday 16th June

A Great Central Circular Rail Tour from Sheffield Victoria presented by Howard Turner.  Calling at Penistone, Doncaster (via Barnsley) and down the South Yorkshire Joint Line to Worksop where we reverse before heading back to Sheffield.

Monday 21st July

Classic Film Night presented by Mick Hayes.

Monday 18th August

Steam Galas and Out on the Main Line 2013 presented by Ashley Shimwell.

Monday 15th September

Great Central Railway Locomotives presented by John Quick.

Monday 20th October

Railways from the 1980s to the Present Time presented by Roy Wilson.  A fascinating show featuring a number of “Then and Now” photographs.

Monday 17th November

One Hundred Years of Immingham presented by Bob Gellatly.

Monday 15th December

Rotherham Trams and Trolleybuses and the People Who Operated Them presented by Paul Fox.  This well known Local Transport Historian describes travel in Rotherham and surrounding districts during the first half of the 20th century.
