  1. I remember Phil in is Red sports car, I’m the younger sister of Graham, Wendy and Eileen (Dopson) he was so flash

  2. When Phil opened the motorist shop in Bridge Street he was a good man to deal with. His prices & customer service were impressed on me & always remembered.

  3. Whenever I think of Phil Royston, I think of the time he was up that tree, that was roughly opposite from where Terry Morris lived. He had a pair of binoculars and was casually checking out the view in general over on the horizon in the direction of the pit and the railway line. No-one else had progressed to being trusted with bino`s back then but Phil had a pair. Me and the kids I was with had never been let loose with a real pair of binoculars before and we wanted to borrow Phil`s. No chance, he was up the tree and we were at the bottom, and he wasn`t risking us getting our grubby dabs on them. Phil was older than us and he went to the grammar school. So better forget it and carry on with our game of footy then.
