  1. Ted Fox and I used to call in there in the early – middle 1960s, on our way from Norwood to the Empire Cinema on Sheffield Rd, for the Saturday Children’s Matinee and later when older, Friday Teenage Evening. Ted would always buy a Lucky Bag and us both sometimes, a cheap metal pea-shooter to cause mischief in the cinema, firing dried peas or sago balls through the projection light! ..

  2. I remember Mrs Beech and also Mrs Sadler in the shop next door. I called at Mrs Beech’s shop when I was a little girl for comics and sweets. She also sold fireworks and I loved going in to look at them on display in the glass topped counter, I remember when I could fill a biscuit tin full of fireworks for £1. Happy days.

    • My family lived on North Crescent and my mother would buy £5 worth of fireworks and they were wrapped in newspaper and when she got home she would unwrap the parcel and my brother and me would take turns picking a firework each until they were gone.On Bonfire Night we would take it in turns letting them off.

  3. I used to call at this shop and see Mrs Beech every day on my way home from Killamarsh junior School to my house in Bridge Street .I used to buy sherbert fountains and midget gems.
