  1. My grandparents lived at number 5 Stanley Street for many years. Dedicated Methodists they lived for the community & were always there to lend a helping hand.
    Granddad had a wheelbarrow he used in the gardens rented from Newtons. On his way home with produce he would arrive home with a lighter barrow. He gave stuff away as he saw neighbours!

    Grandma was the lady who laid out the deceased & washed the bodies ready for burial. She had waist length hair that was washed in a stone sink with water heated from the coal fire. If I did anything wrong, which was often, she would always say “your neck of you!”

    Two people who lived by their beliefs & were an example to all who knew them.

    Grandma died on my birthday & Granddad died several months later from a broken heart. Always fondly remembered.
