  1. Such an “under canal” footway must have been very rare, as the construction of the footway would have to be “engineered” to support the weight of the canal and its water content above it. Usually it would have been cheaper to build a bridge above the canal.

  2. There was a military vehicle storage yard to the left of this photo. I used to sit in the old army lorries when I was still in Junior School days! Cliff Marrison’s shoe repair shop was at the top of the path.
